A dental implant is an artificial tooth root or a prosthetic replacement for a missing tooth that is placed into patient jaw to hold a replacement tooth, bridge, or removable denture. Dental implants may be an option for people who have lost a tooth or teeth due to periodontal disease, an injury, or some other reason.

Today's implants are predominantly made of titanium or zirconium, metals that are bio-compatibles and offer strength and durability as well as a unique property of fusing directly to bone - the process known as osseointegration.
The most accurate form of x-ray imaging currently available is the CT scan, commonly known as a CAT scan or Cone Beam CT scanners (CBCT). Medical CT scanners are often used by Dr. Roshkovan to diagnose, analyze and devise treatment plans for implant surgery.

CBCT scanners use significantly less radiation and may be available to you at Dr. Roshkovan Dental Implants office. Both types of CT scanners provide very detailed, three-dimensional (3-D) images that can accurately measure the height and width of available bone, as well as locate the nearby anatomic structures (such as the maxillary sinuses and mandibular nerves) that the Dr. Igor Roshkovan DDS, MSc must be mindful of during surgery.

Because all radiation dosages are cumulative, and the potentially harmful effects of excessive radiation are well documented, the benefits of improved diagnostic imaging must be weighed against the risks of radiation exposure for your needs and circumstances.
Dental implants work by a process known as osseointegration, which occurs when bone cells attach themselves directly to the surface, essentially locking the implant into the patient jaw bone.

Osseointegrated implants can then be used to support prosthetic tooth replacements of various designs and functionality, replacing anything from a single missing tooth to a full arch (all teeth in the upper and lower jaw). These replacement teeth are usually made to match the natural enamel color of each patient which offers a completely natural appearance and a whole new smile.
Endosteal (bone supported and retained): This is the most commonly used type of implant in implant dentistry today. The various types include screws or cylinders surgically placed into the patient jawbone. Each implant holds one or more prosthetic teeth. This type of implant is generally used as an alternative for patients with crowns, dental bridges, or removable dentures.

Dental Implants offer many advantages over other tooth replacement procedures in implant dentistry.

Endosteal dental implants are a common option for tooth replacement and offer many different advantages. Due to ongoing clinical advancements, safe and effective treatment by trained dentists is readily available around the world. Here are some of the many reasons for choosing dental implants:

Dental implants reduce the load on the remaining oral structures/teeth by offering independent support and retention to crowns, conventional bridges, and overdentures.

The main purpose of implants in dentistry are preserve natural tooth structure by avoiding the need to prep adjacent teeth for conventional bridgework.

Dental implants will preserve bone volume and significantly reduce bone tissue resorption and deterioration that results in loss of jawbone height.

Implants have been shown to reduce the need for subsequent restorative intervention of adjacent teeth.

Dental implants last for a much longer time than conventional restorations on teeth.

Implant overdentures may allow you to bite and chew your food better and speak more clearly. Many studies have shown that implant-retained overdentures contribute to improved chewing efficiency and speaking, compared to full dentures.

Implant-supported dentures will help control/improve facial contours that result in minimizing premature wrinkles and improve live style.
Most likely, if you are reading this patient flyer, you lost teeth. Whether they were lost through an accident, periodontal disease or decay, dental implants are an excellent tooth replacement option for nearly everyone.

Dental implants can be used when:
  • A single tooth is missing - instead of a conventional bridge
  • Several teeth are missing - instead of bridges or partial removable dentures
  • All teeth are missing - instead of full removable dentures
With dental implants, you can eat most foods you want, depending on the type of implant restoration because these new teeth are strong and stable - they look and feel like your own natural teeth. They give you back your smile and self-confident.

If you feel that dental implants could be a viable option for you, contact Dr. Roshkovan Dental Implants (Tel.:818-706-7770) to schedule FREE oral exam and consultation. It is not acceptable to proceed with implant treatment if there are areas of untreated disease of teeth, gums, or bone, as these can affect the success of your implant surgery as well as the integration and maintenance of the dental implant itself.

Therefore, a thorough full-mouth FREE examination (including teeth and gums) should be performed. This allows the Dr. Igor Roshkovan DDS, MSc to also assess your bite (occlusion) which is important to the success of our implant restoration.
Other diagnostic studies are required to properly proceed with implant treatment. A full periodontal examination is required to determine if gum disease is present and, if so, devise an effective treatment plan. A complete tooth-by-tooth examination is also necessary to identify and properly treat any active cavities or other dental pathology.

Dental impressions are needed at various points of treatment to assess the status of your bite and proceed with proper restoration of the implant(s) in coordination with the rest of your entire dentition. Dental photographs may also be used to help plan your treatment as well as record your progress.
